Uncaria (Vilcacora) grows in the lowland tropical forests of Central and South America, mainly in Peru. The local tribes have been using this liana for at least 2,000 years. The Western world became aware of uncaria in the 1970s owing to Christian missionaries. The plant contains high amounts of alkaloids, sterols, aminoglycosides, terpenoids, tannins, flavonoids and other important substances. It may support immunity* and provide for healthy joints**.
